Phi Kappa Phi

No, no.. it's not a sorority, because I don't think I'd join one of those.. especially in my senior year of college. It's actually an honor society, a very prestige honor society. 


I got the letter in the mail and I immediately was filled with joy and skepticism. I was hoping it wasn't a scam or a fake honor society. Once I cleared it up with the chapter at my university, I looked into it further online. This is what I found:


"Juniors must have completed at least seventy-two credit hours and rank scholastically in the top 7.5 percent (or higher depending on local chapter standards) of their class."


The top 7.5%!? I was in the top 7.5% of my junior class!? I couldn't believe it. My school has roughly 16,000 students all together. I didn't think I could be that academically successful when there were so many students, even though I knew I had an awesome GPA and awesome grades [I'll stop bragging now]. 


So I researched further and found out that even though I have to pay dues every year, unlike the honor society, Alpha Lambda Delta, that I joined when I was a freshman, I would be able to apply for numerous scholarships and awards, and I would even get discounts at partner businesses such as, Apple & T-mobile. 


This wouldn't cause my resume to look that much more impressive, but it would cause a confidence in me that I could do anything, and I will. 

*I was totally up for putting my award pictures with my parents, but the award has my last name on it and I'd rather not :)

Creative Crepes

I signed up for a Creative Crepes class at a local Adult School, paid $35.00 a person, and was ready to learn October 21st, Thursday night.


My dad and I had originally planned to go together, but unfortunately he a last minute business trip that he had to take care of Wednesday and Thursday. Therefore, I decided to bring Sal as my replacement cooking buddy.


The night started off quite terribly. We thought we were at the right place, but I had read it wrong. We finally ended up at the right place, 15 minutes late. The class had already started when we walked in. Fortunately the teacher was very friendly and got us started right away.


First the teacher made us try crepes. We picked what we wanted inside; bananas and chocolate chips for me, turkey and cheese for Sal. The teacher told us that whatever you can put in a sandwich, you can make even tastier by putting in a crepe. I have to say, it was delicious.


Then it was time for Sal and I to make our own crepe batter. Of course, Sal had to show off with his cooking skills by cracking eggs the appropriate way and flipping the crepes in the pan. It was quite a show to watch and I enjoyed it. You could tell he enjoyed it too by the way he was smiling when everyone made a big deal out of what he was doing and all eyes were on him.


I was pretty good at it too though, but I did learn a lot. In the end we got to take home our crepes.


I enjoyed taking the class because it gave Sal and I something to bond over. I love to bake, and he loves to cook, so we can learn a little from each other.


We get to mark another thing off our list - Cooking Class!

Terrible Turned Terrific Tuesday

Today was the first day back to classes after a week off for Spring Break. Boy, oh boy. All I can say is that I'm glad that my first professor canceled class due to him being under the weather. However, I still had two other classes I had to attend. I barely made it through the day. It doesn't help that I don't feel good. My nose is so stuffy, I just want to cut it off sometimes! [although I'd miss it quite often].


Then I went to work. I love walking into work and hearing "MISS KRISTYN!" and hearing their feet, running towards me. :] My children never cease to make me smile! Even with a new child who barely listens, wanders around whenever he feels like it, and smirks when he's got something evil planned in his mind! I love that I can mention something and it causes them to talk for minutes, although it could be hours if I didn't change the subject. 


They wanted to watch a movie upstairs but since I was the only teacher there in the afternoon, I couldn't run up and down the stairs just to let their parents in. So I told them this and they suggested I leave the window open so they can jump in! I was holding in my laughter. Kids really do say the darnedest things! Then I asked them what would happen if a stranger came in and they all went off on a rampage! One said they would all team together and battle him and make their toys into weapons! I asked what would happen if he hurt one of them or was trying to; they suggested to call the 911! They knew exactly what to do if a stranger was ever trying to take them or hurt them. BUT then one little boy asked me a question I couldn't even find the answer to! He asked what if the stranger dressed up as their parents and took them home with them. I tried to put together an answer; "Oh you'd know if it was your mom or dad by their voice." It was tough but he didn't question my answer. 


Oh boy, I love my little children and am going to be upset to see them graduate and move on to Kindergarten in June :/


Besides my kids, other things have made me incredibly happy!


I received NEW MOON in the mail today! I ordered it on Walmart and cannot wait to watch it with the boy.

Things to Accomplish in 2010

1. do things I wouldn't normally do
2. learn to cook, as well as bake more goodies :]
3. work out more often & eat healthier = more toned & fit
4. worry LESS
5. begin writing a book, whether it be for children or for adults
6. be more charitable
7. spend more time with friends and family
8. have another successful semester of college
9. keep saving money, even if it's just a few coins a day
10. take more pictures, put together scrapbooks, and blog more :]




I'm sure I'll be adding more as the time goes by but that's it for now. What are your aspirations of 2010?
