Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins

As most of you already know, Halloween was postponed to November 5th in New Jersey, not like I was planning on going trick-or-treating, I think the cut off age is 22 right, that is until I have children of my own! Sal and I were planning on going to a halloween party, but with the after affects of hurricane Sandy and gas lines miles long, we decided against it.

On Halloween night though, I knew I wanted to hang out by the fire and carve and decorate our pumpkins. We had gone pumpkin picking and had left our pumpkins bare for weeks on end. Sal brought over his 'good knives' .. yes he has those and I got out my hot glue stick and jewels. Instead of carving like I usually did, I wanted to decorate it - I was Pinterest inspired!

Sal carved his pumpkin using a stencil, and it came out awesome, instead of the years prior (2009 & 2011) where he did it free-hand, where they weren't as awesome - sorry hun. Meanwhile I started using the hot glue gun, gluing jewels on to my tiny pumpkin. My pumpkin ended up taking a lot longer than planned, so Sal ended up watching most of it, but we were both happy with the results.

I can't believe this is the third time we've carved pumpkins together since we've been together. Isn't it incredible how some things become tradition... I must admit, this is a great tradition that I definitely want to continue in the years to come, and as we grow our own family, the pumpkins will grow as well.

Pumpkin Picking 2012

Two weeks ago, Sal and I went pumpkin picking with his friend from work, as well as his wife and baby. We let them pick where we went; however, the place that we went to, the place that was suggested to them by their friends, was not all it was hyped up to be. I'm not sure if it was because of the rough year for pumpkins, or the place we picked, but a majority of the pumpkins were small and there weren't a lot of them. Last year, we had more to pick from and the place was incredibly beautiful and farm-like.


The day we went was cloudy and rainy, but we were lucky enough to catch a break in the rain; however, it was windy, which made the temperature quite chilly. Bundled up, we took a short hayride over to the pumpkin fields, where I was able to find a small pumpkin, as well as an apple tree!

Afterwards, we headed to the barn where they were selling homemade goodies from doughnuts and ice cream to jams and jellies. We were also able to find a bigger pumpkin to take home and carve! We only bought one this year, instead of two, like last year, because I thought it'd be nice to carve one together, and this way we spent less money (I mean who doesn't want to save money?!).

I was able to try some homemade cookie dough ice cream, and let me just say that it was not all it was cracked up to be. There were barely any cookie dough pieces!! I know, I know, it's a tragedy... seriously, I was devastated - I hadn't had ice cream in awhile, and I was looking forward to it. Thankfully we went to dinner afterwards and had pizza, which was pretty good.

Next year, we'll try going to a place more farm-like. 

Pumpkin Carving 2011

Snow in New Jersey... in October? I guess Mother Nature wanted to dress up for Halloween [yes, I did come up with that cornball line all by myself]! So to keep with the Halloween spirit, here's the pumpkins Sal and I carved last week. By the way, tip for any and all who haven't carved them yet, put vaseline on the inside of it so they don't mold, like mine did. My mom gives me advice after I make these mistakes, but hey, I learned!

I decided against the face.. seeing as my face two years ago was a little crazy, and Sal made a bunny gone wrong... the bunny was not what he intended to carve.

K for my first name and I added a star to the top. I absolutely love the way it came out. I'm not going to lie I used a stencil printed from the computer for most of it. 

Had to take a photograph with the pumpkins, even though Salvatore had to rush off to a soccer game he was asked to join last minute, which explains the reason why he doesn't match.

[Halloween 2011]

Yes! Harry Pumpkin, inspired by Harry Potter. 

I have to say I like this years pumpkins much better than two years ago. It's a great thing to do to spend time together, even if you don't have an ounce of artistic ability in you. It's fun to try your best, and with each year comes better pumpkin carving skills!

another month flies by

Can you believe it? October is over and done with, not before an amazing weekend out with friends dressed as who ever we wanted to be. I think that's the best part of Halloween, dressing up as someone you're not. You're essentially being someone else for the day/night. It lets children's imaginations soar, and adult's imaginations to become alive again. 


Friday night I went to a club with my friend Amanda, for our friend's birthday! It was a costume party. Best costume would win a $1,000! An avatar won! She had blue makeup covering her entire body, and hair exactly like the girl in the movie. It was amazing to see such detail and precision that went into making her costume, it wasn't just bought at a halloween store. 

I ended up using a dress I had and being a Geisha girl. Now I don't usually wear makeup so this was a big thing for me! I have to admit, with the chopsticks in my hair and bright lipstick I looked exactly like one!

After the club we went for a late night snack at where else? McDonalds! Unfortunately, I didn't get home until 3:30 in the morning, and with only 4 hours of sleep before work, I ended up doing homework & relaxing the rest of the day and night. I didn't end up going out to any party Saturday night. However, Sunday was actually Halloween and I was determined to go out no matter what. I slept a good amount and was ready to go. Before anything, I dressed my dog in her adorable costume for only $10.00 at Target! 

An ICE CREAM SUNDAE ! She absolutely hated it and refused to move when the banana was on her head, therefore, I didn't take her out trick or treating. 

I, however, did go trick or treating, with Amanda. I bought a $22.00 shirt at Hot Topic, $7.00 leggings at Kohl's that could always been worn again, a cape I found in the attic and was....

BATGIRL ! 

We ended up going trick or treating around towns, but it was difficult because everyone had there lights out early. We didn't get too much candy, but we got enough to last us a week or two, and who need more candy then that right?

I loved this Halloween, not only was I smart with my money, but I had a great time. 

I hope everyone else enjoyed their Halloween, just as much as I did.
