Tek Gear Sports Bra&Shirt: Product Review

When I look for workout gear, I look for affordable, comfortable clothing. I don't think it's necessary to spend tons of money on workout clothes that you're just going to sweat in - that is what you should be doing in them... nobody should go to the gym just to look pretty, at least not in my opinion. Kohl's has some really great workout clothes, from sports bras to yoga pants, and it's even better when you receive a 30% off coupon in the mail (which is really the only time I go to Kohl's, because I like to SAVE as much as possible)! When I went a few weeks ago, I hadn't been looking for workout clothes, but I stopped in the section anyways, and I'm glad I did, because I found such great deals! I ended up buying a brand of workout clothes that I had never heard of - Tek Gear. I bought two sports bras (a sports bra for $9.00 and two workout shirts for $7.99 each). I was ecstatic to score such a great deal because you can never have enough sports bras and shirts right!?

I went home and immediately wore the sports bra and shirt to the gym for a workout. While I loved the sports bra, and found it extremely comfortable, the shirt could have been tighter. I had to wear a tank top underneath so that the shirt didn't slide up when I took a cardio kickboxing class. Other than the fact that they were a bit loose, I loved the fabric and the feel of the shirts. They were affordable, comfortable, and absorbed some of the sweat. I kept the two shirts, but haven't gotten any more; however, I went back and bought two more sports bras in bright green and grey. I would definitely recommend the sports bras to anyone looking for a comfortable, inexpensive one, but I probably would recommend looking at a different brand for a shirt that is more tight fitting.

Asics GT-2170: Product Review

A couple of months back, I was in the market for a new pair of sneakers, because quite frankly, the ones I had were from high school and had fallen apart. I usually try and buy things on sale because I don't believe in paying full price for anything, but Sal convinced me to head to Lady Foot Locker in the mall, try on a bunch of sneakers, and talk to a professional who knows what kind of shoe would be best for me, running 1-3 miles a day, working out, and taking kickboxing classes. It wasn't until weeks later that I found out about a local sneaker store where they have customers test out sneakers performing all different types of fitness tests, like running on a treadmill, to see what shoes would best fit the individual's feet. I talked with the Foot Locker representative about what I wanted out of the sneakers, something I never do with any sales representative. She showed me a couple of different pairs and I ended up trying a few on, but in the end I fell in love with the ASICS GT-2170 sneakers, in all black. I'm honestly not a fan of colored sneakers when working out, because I want ones that go with every single outfit I put on. No I'm not trying to make a fashion statement, it's more for my own peace of mind. I still love my shoes and haven't had any problems with them thus far, which is why I'm writing this product review.

Did you know that ASICS is an acronym from the Latin phrase, "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which translates to "a sound mind in a sound body." I had no idea prior to my purchase, but I'm kind of in love with the name and what it means. ASICS provides just that too, a sound mind, because when you're running in these shoes, you know that your feet are protected, which makes you push your body to workout even harder. The ASICS GT-2170, for women, has a Gel Cushioning System combined with the Full Length Guidance line, which has been designed to help protect an individual's foot from tremendous, harmful forces that they encounter during all athletic activities by absorbing impact. "The ASICS Gel Cushioning System has the ability to absorb shock by dissipating vertical impact and dispersing it into a horizontal plane." The Gel does not add any weight to these shoes, and though they're not as light as some of the other shoes I tried on, they provided me with the protection I knew I needed after running 1-3 miles a day! I felt comfortable pushing myself during each workout because I knew I was in the appropriate gear to get the job done.

I would definitely recommend the ASICS-2170 to anyone who is looking for a comfortable sneaker that gets the job done. I am never concerned that I am putting too much pressure on my feet when I run, and I am able to focus on the workout, the run, the fitness class, as well as the form and structure of my body. While I couldn't find my exact sneaker on the ASICS website, I did find it online at Dick's Sporting Goods, but I will recommend that you go and try on any sneaker before purchasing them online. I really believe that you must feel how it is on your foot, not just how it looks on a website, especially because these are sneakers that you're going to be working out in, and you don't want to injure yourself just because the sneakers looked cute, but didn't quite fit you.

Premier Protein Shakes & Bars: Product Review

I'm usually always on Twitter, connecting with friends, Tone It Up members, and companies that sell products I enjoy using. Occasionally I'll find a new company and sometimes they'll ask me to try out their products! A few weeks ago I had won a box of Premier Protein products to try. As a fitness fanatic, I was excited to try new protein bars, even though I had never heard of them. I usually eat Luna Bars, Larabars, and Kind bars; while I've been told think thin bars are also great, I have yet to try them. I try and eat protein bars with the least amount of ingredients possible, and with known ingredients, so I know exactly what I'm fueling my body with.

When I received the box of Premier Protein products, I was excited and immediately decided to split the box in half so my brother could try out the products as well. He's big on working out and being healthy too, so I thought it'd be perfect if two people were able to try the products, instead of one.

In the box there was:

2 Chocolate Premier Protein Shakes
2 Vanilla Premier Protein Shakes
2 Chocolate Peanut Butter Premier Protein Bars
2 Double Chocolate Crunch Premier Protein Bars
2 Yogurt Peanut Crunch Premier Protein Bars

{Their Philosophy}

"We believe that everyone should live a healthy, active life, and nutrition is the cornerstone of that life. However, we know that eating healthy and staying active is challenging in today’s hectic life, so we strive to be your health and nutrition partner—making powerful, healthy choices easy.

Our mission is to give you the energy to get the most out of every day — now.
Protein, protein, protein. We love protein because it is essential for a healthy and active life. But getting enough protein is hard, especially protein that doesn’t come with too many calories or too much fat. That’s why we make delicious, essential healthy protein that curbs hunger and fuels your energy for whatever you love to do.
We’re showing the world how healthy protein can help anyone tackle life’s daily challenges, feel their best and live the life they want."

After I workout, I usually have a Perfect Fit Protein Shake, Greek yogurt, or a Luna bar, so instead, I replaced those with a Premier Protein Shake OR half a Premier Protein Bar. The protein shakes have 30g Protein, 160 Calories, 1g Sugar, Low Fat, and 24 Vitamins & Minerals, while the snack shakes, which weren't in the box, have 18g Protein, 100 Calories, 1g Sugar, Low Fat, and 24 Vitamins & Minerals. The protein bars have 30g Protein, 3g Fiber, and good sources of Calcium. All of these products sounded great, perfect for a tough workout. I was nervous though, to replace something that I know works, with something that I've never tried before, however, I eventually gave it a shot.

Unfortunately, I wasn't pleased with the taste of the vanilla shake - it tasted chalky, and while the chocolate one tasted better, I don't think I would buy these to drink after a workout. When I'm done with a workout, I want something refreshing, light, and packed with protein to help my body heal after pushing it to the limits. While the protein shake was packed with protein, it wasn't appealing to my taste buds, at all. My brother on the other hand, knew what to expect with protein shakes, and said that's how most of them taste. There were also a ton of ingredients that I couldn't even pronounce if I tried, which gave me an uneasy feeling, since I literally had no idea what I was drinking.

The protein bars tasted a little better, but I still probably wouldn't choose these bars over the less ingredient bars that I'm used to. Tasting these and reading the ingredients in them definitely made me want to start making my own protein bars, so I know exactly what's in them. Out of all of the bars {chocolate peanut butter, double chocolate crunch, and yogurt peanut crunch}, I think my favorite was the yogurt peanut crunch.

Now, I'm not a pro at protein shakes or bars by any means - I haven't tried all that many brands, so I really didn't know what to expect, maybe they're all like Premier Protein - filled with ingredients I can't name with an indistinguishable taste. I would definitely tell other people to try them because they might like them; they just weren't right for me.

I am thankful that I was able to try these protein bars - Thank you Premier Protein! I'll definitely be willing to try your other products, and expand my protein shake and bar horizons!

Has anyone ever tried Premier Protein shakes or bars? What did you think? Do you have another protein shake or bar that you absolutely love? Tell me which one!

ViewSPORT Tanktop: Product Review

Since I've gotten into working out 6x a week, I've been obsessing over all things fitness. If you ask me what's on my Christmas list, about 90% of the things I listed are fitness related. Let's be honest though, most of the time you can't wait for Santa to come, so you end up buying it yourself. That's what happened to me a few months ago... I just needed this ViewSPORT tanktop, especially because I was kickboxing 3x a week.

ViewSPORT is "an innovative fitness apparel line focused on the motivated athlete, sports teams, the military, and others looking to get the most from their fitness and training efforts." Their apparel has sweat activated technology that reveals a design or words once the perspiration comes in contact with the fabric, which makes you that much more determined to give your workouts your all, so that the words can reward you!

{Their mission} - "ViewSPORT’s mission is to motivate and empower all those interested in living healthier and more active lives with a new tool to visibly measure their hard work." (and let me just tell you, it works!)

There are plenty of men and women's apparel to choose from, in many different colors and styles. I chose the "Drowned In Their Own Sweat" Charcoal on Teal Tank, in a small because you want it to be form fitting. I had talked to a representative from ViewSPORT on Twitter who helped me with sizing and a small discount! Make sure you network people! I got a great deal on it at the time, and I couldn't have been more excited when I received it in the mail!

I threw it on before I headed to an intense hour of kickboxing, knowing that I would sweat, and making sure I pushed myself even harder in order for the sweat activated technology to work, and boy did it ever! The words, TRAIN HARDER, appeared on the lower back of my tanktop, so I wasn't able to see it until I got home, but lucky enough for me the words were still there.

Not only does this make you work harder, but it makes working out fun! While I was kickboxing, I kept thinking how awesome it was that people close to my bag could look at my back and see words of inspiration. Who knows, maybe it made them train harder as well!

I love this tank top and wear it as often as I can. If you haven't mailed your wishlist out to Santa yet, I think you should definitely add a ViewSPORT tank to the bottom, or maybe even to the top of your list. Now I just need to decide which tanktop I want next!

A Care Package from Yoplait

A few weeks ago, Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up asked what greek yogurt we ate, other than Chobani and I quickly responded...

Since my mom began Weight Watchers, she's been eating healthier, and therefore more aware of the points and nutritional value of food. She noticed that Yoplait has a new 100 calorie Greek yogurt out, and quickly picked a variety of flavors for us to try. Not only is it 100 calories, it's only 2 weight watcher points, and has 10-13g of protein and only 7-9g of sugar. Talk about a healthy version of greek yogurt - it's now my go-to greek yogurt!

We've tried every flavor - black cheery, mixed berry, key lime, strawberry, peach and vanilla. I am a huge fan of the key lime and vanilla yogurts. The vanilla is perfect because you can add granola and fruit right on top to make a perfect, healthy breakfast or snack!

So when Yoplait asked that I DM them, I couldn't say no! The other day, I finally received my care package and I was thrilled!

I opened the envelope to find an adorable (incredibly soft) Yoplait motto 'it's so good' shirt, an awesome Iphone case with their motto again, and a coupon for a free cup of Yoplait Greek Yogurt - perfect for the Tone It Up Holiday Hottie Week (more on that in a later blog post).

Everyone needs to try this greek yogurt and let me know what you think of it!

Thank you for the incredible care package Yoplait!
