Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: Book Review

The last and final one. I finished it on Sunday because I just couldn't put the book down. Instead of reading for my special education class, I read Harry Potter. I actually didn't want it to end. I kept counting down the pages till the end of the chapter. I just thought Harry's adventures would lead into another book, but unfortunately they didn't and I was extremely upset. At least I still have the movie to look forward to, although after that I guess I'll just have to reread the books or find another series worth reading.

Synopsis according to Target :

At a time when the forces of evil seem to be gaining the upper hand, Harry comes of age in the wizarding world, and must take on and defeat Voldemort--or be killed himself. Ten years after Potter-mania first swept the globe, the epic series draws to a close with HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS, the hotly anticipated seventh and final book of the internationally revered Harry Potter series. Prophecies will be fulfilled. Beloved characters will die. Questions will be answered. (Is Dumbledore really gone forever? Who is R.A.B.? Is Severus Snape truly a villain?) In this final volume, Harry's seemingly impossible quest is to discover the locations of the remaining horcruxes--items sacred to Lord Voldemort containing shreds of his soul, making him immortal--and destroy them, saving the world from becoming a Death Eaters' paradise where Muggles are prey and purebloods rule. My Review:


It's bittersweet knowing that there are no more books of the Harry Potter series left to read. However, I am quite please in the way it ends. If you haven't read the book, stop reading please. By the end of the sixth book, Harry, as well as Dumbledore only managed to destroy two out of the seven Horcruxes, Tom Riddle's Diary and the Ring, and had hoped to destroy a third, the Necklace, but it was deemed fake. Harry embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to find the rest - the Necklace, Cup, Snake, the Last Diadem, and Voldemort. I thoroughly enjoyed how there were things from each of the Houses at Hogwarts. Hermione and Ron accompany Harry on this tiring journey, and even though Ron bails once, he eventually comes back to help, and in so forth, helps Harry destroy the found necklace. The cup, isn't destroyed until they figure out that it's in Bellatrix's Gringotts vault. Yup, you guessed it, they had to break in, which wasn't an easy feat. They needed assistance from a goblin, intelligence, as well as luck, and a dragon! Hermione doesn't destroy it until they reach Hogwarts, their final destination, with venom from the Basilik in the Chamber of Secrets. 


Harry knew all along that the last Horcrux would be at Hogwarts and he guessed right. The Last Diadem, from the Ravenclaw House, is found in the hiding place in which Harry hid something - the Room of Requirement. Although it wasn't destroyed by him, rather it was destroyed by Crabbe. While the rest of Hogwarts is off fighting the Death Eaters, as well as giants and spiders, Harry was in search for the last Horcrux. Once it was found and destroyed, he knew it was time for himself to be destroyed in the Forbidden Forest. What amazes me is how strong of a person he was when he was walking to Lord Voldemort. What amazes me even more is that he didn't die when Voldemort cast the killing curse, the horcrux inside him was destroyed! 


Harry acted as though he was dead, and Voldemort brought him to the castle to show his 'dead' body to the rest of those left alive. Neville, having been told to kill Nagini the snake, prior to Harry's death, did his part. They go into battle once more, and Harry reveals he is alive. Harry giving up his life, to save others from dying, enabled everyone to have a protective charm around them, in which all of the curses bounced off them. After death eaters were killed and scared away, Harry and Voldemort face each other for one last time. Voldemort uses the killing curse on Harry, but Harry uses 'Expelliarmus,' which causes the Elder Wand to kill Voldemort with his own curse. Why you may ask? Because the Elder Wand belongs to Harry ... how? Because the wand was originally Draco's after 'winning' it from Dumbledore, even though Snape killed him. Then when Harry beats Draco and takes his wand, the Elder wand becomes Harry's. Harry is also the owner of the Resurrection Stone and the Invisibility Cloak. Ending the story with Harry's victory was more than anyone could ask for. 


What I liked about the end: The resurrection stone brought Harry's loved ones back - his mom, dad, godfather, and Lupin, and enabled them to encourage him that he was brave for allowing death to come. How bad ass Neville got. How Harry, Ron, and Hermione, saved Draco TWICE. How J.K Rowling shares what occurs 19 years later. How in love Snape was with Harry's mom. I think his memories might've been my favorite part. How Harry's famous 'Expelliarmus' defeated Voldemort.


What I didn't like about the end: Dobby and Hedwig's death, Fred's death, Snape's death, and the deaths of Lupin and Tonks. Yes I understand some individuals had to die, but it was still sad to see.  


I'm hoping the movie is just as good as the book.
